Construction Labourers

Competition number:2010-106

Anticipated Start Date:ASAP

Salary or Wage:As per collective agreement

Location:70 km northeast of Ft. McMurray, AB

Job Description:

Expected work tasks may include (but is not limited to):

  • Erecting and dismantling concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks shoring and barricades;
  • Mixing, pouring and spreading materials;
  • Paving and raking asphalt; and
  • Removing rubble and other debris at construction sites.


Educational Requirements:

Some college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training.



Credentials/ Safety Requirements:

Must provide own steel-toed boots.

Certifications required on site:

  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) Certificate
  • OSSA Certificate


Experience:

Two to three years industrial construction experience.



Additional Information:

Ideal candidates:

  • Can work well with others;
  • Are willing to work outdoors and at heights; and
  • Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking.

This project is currently on 10-hour work shifts in various 14/7 cross-shifts and includes a night shift.  Canonbie will provide travel between project site and hub cities (Edmonton and Calgary) and camp accommodations.  Travel allowance is paid out (amount based on province).

This site requires alcohol & drug testing clearance prior to arrival on site.

Carpenters

Location:70 km northeast of Ft. McMurray, AB

Job Description:

Expected work tasks may include (but is not limited to):

  • General carpentry;
  • Form work;
  • Determining specifications and calculating requirements;
  • Preparing layouts;
  • Building foundations;
  • Operating power tools; and
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and specifications.


Educational Requirements:

Some college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training.



Credentials/ Safety Requirements:

Carpenter Trade Certification and Interprovencial Red Seal Carpenter Endorsement preferred.

Must provide own steel-toed boots.

Certifications required on site:

  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) Certificate
  • OSSA Certificate


Experience:

Three to five years industrial construction experience.



Additional Information:

Ideal candidates:

  • Maintain a focus on safety at all times;
  • Can work well with others;
  • Must provide their own steel-toed safety boots;
  • Are willing to work outdoors and at heights; and
  • Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking.

Journeyman/woman Steamfitter-Pipefitter

Job Description:

Expected work tasks may include (but is not limited to):

  • Determine layout requirements;
  • Select type and size of pipe;
  • Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size;
  • Remove and replace defective components;
  • Operate power lifts;
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications;
  • Liaise with management, engineers and other trades; and
  • Supervise other workers.


Educational Requirements:

Some college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training.



Credentials/ Safety Requirements:

3rd Period Apprentice, 4th Period Apprentice, Steamfitter-Pipefitter Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate

First Aid Certificate

Must provide own steel-toed boots.

Certifications required on site:

  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) Certificate
  • OSSA Certificate


Experience:

Three to five years industrial construction experience.



Additional Information:

  • Are skilled at reading and writing text, numeracy and oral communication;
  • Show attention to detail;
  • Can work well with others;
  • Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking;
  • Can work in a fast-paced environment, bending, crouching, kneeling; and
  • Are willing to work outdoors and at heights.

Journeyman/woman Electrician

Job Description:

Expected work tasks may include (but is not limited to):

  • Keep maintenance reports and documentation;
  • Determine appropriate selection of materials and methods for hazardous locations;
  • Programmable logic controls and associated devices, high voltage and energized equipment;
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications;
  • Install, replace and repair electrical controls and panel boxes;
  • Splice, join and connect wires;
  • Test and measure voltage, loads, ground faults integrity of circuits; and
  • Renovate electrical systems in residential and commercial structures.


Educational Requirements:

Some college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training.



Credentials/ Safety Requirements:

3rd Period Apprentice, 4th Period Apprentice, or Construction Electrician Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsment
